Buildings & Contents Insurance
Here’s what we’ve added – as standard:
-
Cover for garden plants and trees – we’ll cover loss or damage
We will pay for loss or damage to hedges, trees, shrubs, plants and lawns. Here’s how it works:
Under contents cover – we will pay for loss or damage to hedges, trees, shrubs, plants and lawns caused by perils 1 to 9 and whilst within the boundaries of your home and its land - up to a limit of £500 (with a maximum limit of £250 per item).
-
Trace and access - helping find the source of the problem so that it can be put right
What this means and how it works:
Under buildings cover - we will pay for the cost of removing and replacing any part of the buildings to locate and repair the source of a water or oil leak from any fixed tank, appliance or pipe forming part of the home - up to a limit of £2,500.
-
Increased liability cover – we’ll now cover you up to £2,000,000
As the owner of your home, you may become legally liable to pay compensation for any accident that causes bodily injury to a person or damage to property. Here’s how it works:
Under buildings cover - we will pay for any amounts, which you as the owner of the home become legally liable to pay as compensation for an accident, which causes bodily injury to a person or damage to property. Also any amounts arising solely from your legal liability to pay compensation for death or accidental bodily injury to anyone or accidental damage to property caused by faults in any private residence previously owned and occupied by you – up to a limit of £2,000,000.
Under contents cover – we will pay for any sums claimed or payable in respect of accidental bodily injury or accidental damage to property where the claim or liability arises against you as occupier of the home, in a personal capacity or as an employer of domestic staff – up to a limit of £2,000,000.

What is home insurance?
Home insurance is a general insurance policy that normally lasts for 12 months in return for which you pay a yearly premium. You need to either renew your policy each year, or take out a new one.
If something you are insured against then happens - for example fire, flood, accidental damage or theft - you can make a claim. If the claim is valid the insurance will pay out. With Teachers Assurance, you can pay your yearly premium in 12 monthly instalments. Unlike many other companies we don't charge you interest for this facility.
Because we like to look after our customers, we also give you up to 12% discount on the price - not just when you originally apply, but every year you stay with us.
-
What type of insurance will suit me best?
For convenience, many homeowners buy a combined policy that includes buildings and contents insurance. But you can buy them separately and may want to do this if you rent your home or live in a leasehold property where the owner or freeholder insures the building - then you may only need contents insurance.
Whatever your situation, Teachers Assurance can help, so please give us a call.
